Get to know General Practitioner Dr. Brian B. Coleman, who serves the population of Pikeville, Kentucky. Dr. Brian B. Coleman has been practicing for more than seven years and is currently serving patients within Brandon Akers Chiropractic Center located in Pikeville, Kentucky. He is also affiliated with the University of Louisville Hospital, Louisville Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Brian B. Coleman gained his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 2010 from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Kentucky. Following this, he completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Louisville, prior to an internship in Head and Neck Surgery at the West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown. He then went on to complete a research fellowship in Diabetes at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Coleman attributes his success as a physician to the inspiration that he’s taken from his own parents, who are both family doctors. Dr. Coleman says that he always tries to give the level of care that he saw his parents give to their patients, and this drives him on throughout his medical career. In the medical profession, a general practitioner (GP) is a medical doctor who treats acute and chronic illnesses and provides preventive care and health education to patients. A general practitioner manages types of illness that present in an undifferentiated way at an early stage of development, which may require urgent intervention. The holistic approach of general practice aims to take into consideration the biological, psychological, and social factors relevant to the care of each patient’s illness. Their duties are not confined to specific organs of the body, and they have particular skills in treating people with multiple health issues. They are trained to treat patients of any age and sex to levels of complexity that vary between countries.
