Get to know Otolaryngologist Dr. Brian R. Peterson, who serves the population of West Jordan, Utah. Dr. Brian R. Peterson is a highly trained and qualified physician with a vast expertise in all facets of his work, especially treating ear, hearing, and balance disorders in both adult and pediatric patients. He has been in practice for more two decades, and is currently serving patients within South Valley ENT in West Jordan, Utah. Dr. Peterson’s career in medicine began in 1990 when he graduated from the University of Utah. Upon receiving his Medical Degree, he completed his ENT residency at the State University of New York, before undertaking his fellowship training in Otology/Neurotology at the Michigan Ear Institute. Dr. Peterson is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, and has earned the coveted title of Fellow of the American Neurotology Society and the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Peterson attributes his success to the discipline that his background in music gave him, as well as growing up with competitive brothers. When he is not assisting patients, Dr. Peterson enjoys playing professional Bassoon, skiing, softball, and participating in marathons. Otolaryngology is a medical specialty which is focused on the ears, nose, and throat. It is also called otolaryngology-head and neck surgery because specialists are trained in both medicine and surgery. An otolaryngologist is often called an ear, nose, and throat doctor, or an ENT for short. This medical specialty dates back to the 19th century, when doctors recognized that the head and neck contained a series of interconnected systems. Doctors developed techniques and tools for examining and treating problems of the head and neck, eventually forming a medical specialty.
