Empowering Young Minds in Scottsdale and Phoenix

Dr. Nancy Buckner, a board-certified outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, is making significant strides in mental health care for children and adolescents in Scottsdale, Arizona, and at the Phoenix Indian Medical Hospital. Her unique journey, stemming from her own experiences with a chronic medical illness in childhood, has shaped her passion for psychiatric care and her commitment to improving the lives of her young patients.

With over two decades of experience, she specializes in providing thorough psychiatric evaluations and medication management, focusing on early intervention to foster positive outcomes. “Therapeutic interventions at a young age can really change the trajectory of a child's life,” she states. Her dedication is evident as she witnesses her patients improve and thrive, bringing her immense satisfaction and joy in her work. 

Before embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Buckner completed her Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis in 1991, followed by a residency in general psychiatry at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson in 1995, and a fellowship in child psychiatry in 1996.

In her private practice in Scottsdale, she works diligently one day per week, dedicating the remaining four days to the Phoenix Indian Medical Hospital. Her commitment to underserved populations underscores her passion for equitable mental health care access. 

On a more personal level, Dr. Buckner attributes her success to “hard work and determination,” qualities that resonate in her practice and patient interactions. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time in the Southwest, playing with her cocker spaniel, traveling, reading, and playing the piano, which helps her maintain a balanced and fulfilling life.
