Get to know Physician Assistant Rhea Buycks, who serves patients in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Rhea is a certified physician assistant who specializes in preventing and treating human illness and injury by providing a broad range of care under the supervision of a physician. She works at Rockford Family Care.

Located in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Rockford Family Care offers services such as primary care, occupational medicine, and pediatric care. There, Rhea enjoys being able to develop a relationship with patients while helping them meet their health needs. 

A graduate of Lone Grove High School, she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from East Central University in 2007. Years later, in 2011, she earned her Master of Health Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from The University Of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

Certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Rhea is a member of the Oklahoma Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is also affiliated with the Emergency Department at Mercy Hospital Ardmore.

Thriving in her field, she attributes her success to a strong community of physician assistants and leaders “that advocate for us to be able to practice.”

A physician assistant is a health care practitioner who practices medicine in collaboration with physicians. They examine patients, prescribe medicine, and order diagnostic tests. In most cases, they work under the supervision of physicians or surgeons, but they can work more independently in some states, rural areas, and inner-city areas, consulting with physicians only when they need help with cases.

On a more personal note, Rhea and her husband enjoy many outdoor activities, managing their growing ranch and spending time with their baby girl. When she is not caring for patients, she can be found in the kitchen whipping up some yummy treats for her friends and family, reading, and crafting. Her favorite professional publication is the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
