Dr. Duma is considered one of the best neurosurgeons in California and one of the most experienced in the field of Gamma Knife radiosurgery and brain tumor surgery. He has been performing Gamma Knife radiosurgery since 1990 and currently serves as the Medical Director of the Brain Tumor Program at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach.
Bringing an incredible level of physician expertise, Dr. Duma treats nearly 500 patients per year. Due to his ability to perform open, general cranial neurosurgery, he is also uniquely equipped to offer an unbiased opinion about the management of any particular problem.
Holding several key roles, Dr. Duma is the CEO, President, and Founder of Regeneration Biomedical, Inc.; Founder and President of Brain and Spine Surgeons of Orange County; Founder and Chairman of the Board at DatCard; and a staff member at the Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute at Hoag Hospital.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Duma is actively engaged in groundbreaking research on vaccines for combating malignant brain tumors. He has been a leading figure in immunotherapy research for primary brain tumors.
His pioneering work includes the first-ever injection of autologous mesenchymal fat-derived mesenchymal stem cells into the brain’s ventricles for neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s Disease, ALS, and chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
In regard to his educational background, Dr. Duma earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Neuroscience from Colgate University in 1981. He then pursued his Medical Degree at the State University of New York, School of Medicine at Stony Brook, completing his studies in 1986.
Following his medical education, Dr. Duma entered a residency at Georgetown University, specializing in neurosurgery from 1986 to 1993. During this period, he also engaged in a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery within the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh, Presbyterian Hospital, under the guidance of Dr. L. Dade Lunsford, an international authority and the first to offer radiosurgery in the United States.
With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, the doctor is board certified in neurosurgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS). The broad aim of the ABNS is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.
On a professional level, Dr. Duma is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons (Fellow – FACS), and the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.
Throughout his extensive career, he has authored numerous articles, studies, and book chapters, continually exploring new clinical applications for stereotactic radiosurgery.
