Distinguished specialist enhances patient care and education in reproductive health in California

The American Fertility Medical Center is proud to announce that Dr. Rafif Z. Moussa has been appointed as the Medical Director. With extensive training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) and a commitment to advancing patient care, Dr. Moussa is set to elevate the standard of reproductive health services in California.

Dr. Moussa is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, trained under the esteemed Dr. Howard Jones at the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine, where the first IVF baby in the United States was born. Her expertise encompasses a comprehensive range of advanced reproductive techniques, including In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD). 

Her journey in medicine began at Damascus University, Syria, where she earned her MSc in Obstetrics and Gynecology and completed her residency program. She later advanced her education at Eastern Virginia Medical School, where she received a Master’s Degree in Clinical Embryology and Andrology.

Furthermore, she completed a fellowship in REI at the prestigious Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine. This institute is famed for being the birthplace of the country’s first IVF baby, which has propelled Dr. Moussa’s career forward, allowing her to excel in advanced reproductive techniques such as IVF, intrauterine insemination (IUI), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD).

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Moussa is dedicated to education as an Assistant Professor at the School of Health Professions, Reproductive Clinical Science Programs at EVMS. She is committed to shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals by imparting knowledge and fostering empathy in patient care.

Dr. Moussa holds medical licenses in California, Ohio, Virginia, Illinois, and Indiana, demonstrating her extensive qualifications and commitment to serving diverse communities. Her unique international background, having earned her medical degree from Damascus University, enriches her approach to patient care, blending global perspectives with local practices.

At the American Fertility Medical Center, Dr. Moussa will lead a team dedicated to providing high-quality fertility treatments and personalized care plans. Her leadership will not only enhance the center’s services but also contribute significantly to ongoing research in reproductive health.
