Dr. Megan McCarthy is a double board-certified nurse practitioner specializing in cardiovascular and occupational health, with a dedicated focus on the unique needs of firefighters, law enforcement officers, and their families. With over 25 years of clinical experience and a deep commitment to first responder wellness, she provides expert care at the Phoenix Fire Department Health Center with Vincere Cancer Center. She first Nurse Practitioner to work at the Phoenix Fire Health Center.
A healthcare entrepreneur with a passion for public safety, Dr. McCarthy Co-owned and founded two successful medical practices—Heart Fit for Duty LLC, a pioneering occupational health clinic for first responders, and Health Fit Clinic, a telemedicine platform designed to expand access to functional wellness for first responders and their families across the country. Her entrepreneurial spirit is rooted in creating practical, evidence-based solutions for real-world challenges in cardiovascular and occupational health.
Dr. McCarthy is board certified by both the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (Adult/Geriatric NP) and the American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine (Cardiology NP). She is also a Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (COHC) and an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American College of Cardiology.
She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Grand Canyon University, where her research focused on identifying sudden cardiac death risk and reducing cardiac-focused anxiety in firefighters. Her clinical expertise includes advanced diagnostics such as VO₂ max treadmill and cycle ergometry, annual firefighter physicals, cardiopulmonary stress testing (Cycle, WFI, Bruce, Davis, Balke-C protocols), advanced lipid testing, hormone management and preventive cardiac and cancer screening protocols using echocardiography and ultrasound.
Through her work, Dr. McCarthy continues to lead the field in first responder health, combining cutting-edge care with a deep understanding of the physical and psychological demands of public safety professions.
