Dr. Kevin Tri Nguyen, MD, PhD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in robotic and open surgical procedures for diseases of the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and bile ducts. A recognized leader in robotic Whipple procedures and liver resections, he brings over 14 years of surgical experience to Emory Johns Creek Hospital. Dr. Nguyen serves as an assistant professor in Emory University’s Department of General Surgery, where he also trains future surgeons. Prior to joining Emory, he held key roles at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital and the University of Michigan. Dr. Nguyen is an active member of the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association and other leading surgical societies. He is known for combining technical precision with a strong commitment to improving patient outcomes. When not in the operating room or classroom, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two children.

He earned both his medical and doctorate degrees from the prestigious Mount Sinai School of Medicine of New York University, complemented by a Ph.D. in Microbiology and oncogene signaling. His rigorous training includes a residency in General Surgery at the University of Michigan, followed by a specialized fellowship in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery at the renowned University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of General Surgery at Emory University’s School of Medicine, Dr. Nguyen plays a vital role in educating the next generation of surgeons while providing exceptional care to his patients. His research interest is in improving clinical outcomes and innovations to further advance HPB surgery. His previous experience includes pivotal roles at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, where he was co-director of the Piedmont Pancreas Cancer Surgery Clinic, and as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan, where he contributed significantly to advancing robotic HPB surgery in the Department of Surgery’s HPB Division.
