Leading Specialist in Robotic Surgery Enhances Patient Care at Emory Johns Creek Hospital

Emory Healthcare is proud to highlight the expertise of Dr. Kevin Tri Nguyen, M.D., PhD, FACS, a distinguished member of the surgical team at Emory Johns Creek Hospital. With an impressive 14 years of surgical experience, Dr. Nguyen specializes in both robotic and open surgical procedures addressing complex conditions related to the liver, pancreas, bile duct, and gallbladder.

Dr. Nguyen is internationally recognized for his advanced work in robotic Whipple procedures and liver resections, establishing himself as a leader in the field. He earned both his medical and doctorate degrees from the prestigious Mount Sinai School of Medicine of New York University, complemented by a Ph.D. in Microbiology and oncogene signaling. His rigorous training includes a residency in General Surgery at the University of Michigan, followed by a specialized fellowship in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery at the renowned University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of General Surgery at Emory University’s School of Medicine, Dr. Nguyen plays a vital role in educating the next generation of surgeons while providing exceptional care to his patients. His research interest is in improving clinical outcomes and innovations to further advance HPB surgery. His previous experience includes pivotal roles at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, where he was co-director of the Piedmont Pancreas Cancer Surgery Clinic, and as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan, where he contributed significantly to advancing robotic HPB surgery in the Department of Surgery’s HPB Division.

Dr. Nguyen’s commitment to excellence is underscored by his board certification in General Surgery and active membership in several esteemed professional organizations, including the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, the American College of Surgeons, and the Society of Robotic Surgery.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Nguyen cherishes time spent with his wife and two children, reflecting his belief in the importance of family and work-life balance.
