Get to know General Surgeon and Breast Surgical Oncologist Dr. Darren Sachs, who serves patients throughout the State of New York.

Dr. Sachs is a board-certified general surgeon and fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist who specializes in the surgical care of breast diseases and conditions, including breast cancer.

As a valued partner at Surgical Specialists of New York, Dr. Sachs is deeply committed to delivering exceptional care to his patients across three convenient New York City locations: the Upper East Side of Manhattan, the Astoria area of Queens, and the Bayside neighborhood in Flushing. His primary mission is to prioritize patient education, ensuring that individuals under his care are well-informed, comfortable, and fully grasp their treatment options.

In addition to his medical roles, Dr. Sachs holds multiple other responsibilities. He is a NASM-certified fitness trainer and health coach, a CoC Cancer Liaison Physician affiliated with the Commission on Cancer and the American College of Surgeons, and serves as the Director of Breast Surgery at CarePoint Health System, with affiliations with all three Carepoint Hospitals.

Boasting a robust educational foundation, Dr. Sachs received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He then earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York. Afterward, he completed his residency in general surgery in Wyckoff Heights, Brooklyn, and an SSO-approved breast surgical oncology fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In the realm of surgery, Dr. Sachs is a diplomat of the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery (AOBS). The AOBS is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the use of surgery to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Maintaining active membership in several prestigious professional associations, Dr. Sachs is a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on the alimentary canal and abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland.
