Get to know Physician Assistant Dr. Alexandra M. Haverchak, who serves patients in Akron, Ohio.

Dr. Haverchak is a physician assistant in Akron, Ohio. She is affiliated with Summa Akron City Hospital, which is a part of Summa Health System. From the first accredited radiology department in the country to the first adult open heart surgery in Akron, Summa Akron City Hospital has achieved national recognition as a healthcare provider.

Dr. Haverchak received her Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in biology from Ohio University in 2015. She then went on to receive her Master’s degree (under a physician assistant degree program) from Ohio University in 2018.

Dr. Haverchak is a member of the Ohio Association of Physician Assistants (OAPA). Formed in 1978, the OAPA has provided a foundation for the PA profession for the state of Ohio. This organization promotes quality, cost-effective, accessible health care through the physician assistant – physician team approach. The OAPA has and continues to strive to advance this profession through legislation, providing CME opportunities and promoting their career to the general public.

Dr. Haverchak is also a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA). Founded in 1968, the AAPA is the national professional society for PAs. It represents a profession of more than 131,000 PAs across all medical and surgical specialties in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, and the uniformed services. The AAPA advocates and educates on behalf of the profession and the patients PAs serve.

Dr. Haverchak grew up as an athlete and was in/out of physical therapy. This is what first sparked her interest in healthcare. She attributes her success to her supportive family and her adversity during difficult times.

Sometimes referred to mistakenly as physician’s assistants, physician assistants are medical providers who are licensed to diagnose and treat illness and disease and to prescribe medication for patients. They work in physician offices, hospitals, and clinics in collaboration with a licensed physician.

In her spare time, Dr. Haverchak enjoys playing soccer, working out, trying new foods, and spending time with her mom.
