Dr. Brandon Edward Buttry D.C.'s Expert Contributions
  • How does a chiropractor adjust your upper back?

The doctor will carefully examine the area first, then decide on which segments to address. Different segments will do different things for the area and for the overall body function. He/she will then employ his/her chosen technique and render a totally comfortable adjustment to help the area(s) function better. Patients love upper back adjustments! Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • How do you crack your lower back like a chiropractor?

You cannot reproduce a third person well-intentioned adjustment unless you exit your own body and somehow adjust yourself that way. There is no way to "adjust yourself" -- you can crank on your spine and manipulate it, making a bunch of cracking sounds. This is not recommended and not safe. Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • What are the benefits of seeing a chiropractor?

    1. Improved Nerve Function (nerves control all other tissues!) 2. Improved Range of Motion and muscle/joint function 3. Improved blood flow (especially to formerly stuck areas) Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor fix costochondritis?

A chiropractor can assess your spine and also the joints where the ribs meet the spine (in the back) and sternum (in the front). Working to create better range of motion in all rib joints is a key component of improving costochondritis. After practicing for several years, I can personally say I have probably helped hundreds of rib issues. It is certainly worth it to consult with a great chiropractor. Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • How do you realign your back?

Go consult with a doctor of chiropractic. He or she will perform an exam of your spine. He or she will properly adjustment any offending segments of the spine with ease and precision. You will feel better and better the more reps you get in at the chiro! Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • Why does my back crack when I turn over in bed?

The cracking can be a result of several things. It is more than likely a simple release of pressure from your spinal joints. This is totally normal, so long as you are not forcing it to crack. Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • Do I need a massage or chiropractor for a stiff neck?

Chiropractic first. Then massage if you really want to accelerate results. The stiffness is because the muscles are reacting to misaligned vertebrae in the spine. Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • Can chiropractic care worsen a herniated disk?

Anything can exacerbate a herniated disc. This is a serious condition and whomever is going to treat you whether an MD or DC needs to be very skilled and experienced with these types of cases. As a chiropractor, I have successfully treated hundreds of these types of cases and cannot remember anyone getting worse. If anything, they make minimal progress and we would then refer them to a trusted medical colleague to take the next step with injections, surgery, etc. I would start with an experienced DC. Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • How long does it take for a herniated disc to reabsorb?

You would need an MRI to tell for sure. It depends on how extreme the herniation is. Could be anywhere from 6 mo to 2 years. Surgery is the very last resort option here. That tissue takes a long time to heal. I would consult with a chiropractor and count on getting an MRI to know exactly what you’re dealing with. Best of luck! Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • What age should a child see a chiropractor?

Children can see a chiropractor at any age. The technique will be relative to the patient's size and age, so they can use very light force and gentle maneuvers to help your son! So smart of you to get him checked! Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • Can you become addicted to chiropractic cracks?

Although a great short-term benefit is the release of endorphins, they belong to your body and as such you cannot get addicted chemically to any effects of the adjustment. Chiropractic's sole purpose is to return the body to balance, to center the body, to take stress off of the body. As almost 100% of people are chronically stressed, I suppose getting adjusted could give you a feeling that you could become addicted to -- but that's called 100% LIFE. Sadly, most people do not live a life at 100% at all anymore. When you feel great after a chiropractic adjustment, it is because you are returning to the state that your body was designed to be in -- before technology and all modern day stressors came along. That's why it is so important to keep chiropractic as a lifestyle habit. You go regularly just like you go to the gym and get your hair cut regularly. I am so glad you are in chiropractic and are experiencing how great it is to be as close to 100% as is possible for you! Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor help with bad posture?

Absolutely. Especially in younger patients, we can see a drastic change for the better! Get into a great chiropractor and have your son checked! It is safe, gentle, and precise -- he will love it! Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor align your jaw?

Absolutely! In fact, many dentists in my area prefer to refer their TMJ/jaw patients over to our office. We obtain an X-ray, run our line analysis software on it to get the perfect measurements, angles, and vectors...then go to work with some light hands-on or instrument assisted adjustments which are TOTALLY comfortable and are usually effective within a short time period! READ MORE

  • Does cracking your neck release endorphins?

Yes. But is that correcting your underlying biomechanical issue or is it just finding a way to naturally medicate yourself? See many self-crackers are getting endorphin release without addressing the proper vertebra and thus have to continue this habit 20x per day, whereas a chiropractor will analyze and pinpoint the exact issue and only address that, while not disrupting the others. Over time, all of my "self-popping" patients cease the habit and feel much better and stable as a result. Precision beats power and brute force manipulation any day of the week. You get to the root cause AND get the endorphin release. Slam dunk. READ MORE

  • How do I strengthen my back with scoliosis?

I would recommend seeking out a qualified chiropractic that specializes in scoliosis. Scoliosis is so different with each and every patient...no two are the same. A qualified chiropractor or physical therapist can assess your unique case and give you tailored exercises to help your unique pattern. Generally, if your spine is aligned and adjusted, simple yoga and high rep low weight back exercises will work fine. Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • How do I sleep with a herniated disc in my neck?

Ice it down good before sleeping and use 1 or no pillow. You want to avoid over-flexing the neck. Can sleep on side or on back, whatever is best. If really bad, you may have to use a recliner until it has healed (if non-surgical) or has been surgically cleaned out. Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • What are the risks of chiropractic treatment?

There are little if any risks for a 23-year-old male. A chiropractor is a trained doctor and will be able to find any contraindications to adjusting you. I highly doubt there will be any. Compared to medical treatment, the risks are significantly lower! That’s why a chiropractor’s malpractice insurance is 50-200K less per year than a medical doc! Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • Why does my pelvis crack?

This question can be better answered by consulting with a chiropractor and letting him/her do a full evaluation. More often than not, a tendon or ligament is rubbing over a bone or other tissue. If it is one solid crack and then you cannot reproduce it for awhile, it could also be a joint popping like what people will do with their knuckles. In that case, the pop is simply nitrogen gas being released from the joint. Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • Should I wear a bra to the chiropractor?

A bra will never be in the way of an adjustment. You should be fine in the clothing you'd wear on any given day. Hope you enjoy your chiropractic visits! Respectfully, Dr. Brandon Buttry READ MORE

  • What are the dangers of chiropractic care?

The risks of chiropractic care are virtually nothing IF you have a qualified doctor in whom you trust is making the best decisions for you and your case. Comparative to other professions (medicine for example) chiropractic is significantly safer. Unless your daughter has a specific condition where chiropractic care (adjustments) is contraindicated, she sounds like a perfect candidate for treatment. Start with a doctor that utilizes X-ray in his/her clinic and just begin with getting her spine examined. Many techniques can be used to adjust the spine as well, with lots of them being extremely light force. I have 101 year old patients that love their adjustments. Chiropractic can be modified to fit the needs of even the youngest, oldest, most damaged patient. That is why it is so great! Best of luck!
