A Journey of Passion and Service
Jan began her medical career in 1993 as a volunteer EMT and shock trauma technician with Virginia Beach EMS, serving the community for 25 years with both Kempsville Volunteer Rescue Squad and Davis Corner Volunteer Rescue Squad. Her unwavering commitment to emergency medical services has earned her life membership status with Virginia Beach EMS & Kempsville Volunteer Rescue Squad, reflecting her dedication to healthcare.
From Assembly Line to Healthcare:
Before embarking on her healthcare journey, Jan gained valuable skills working at Ford Motor Company from February 1994 to August 2007. She started on the assembly line, then drove a forklift feeding the line. She then moved up to supervisor of shipping and receiving and eventually became a journeyman pipefitter/plumber through a skilled trades apprenticeship program. Balancing work and family, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Norfolk State University in 2003, developing a strong foundation in both the sciences and humanities. Following the closure of the Ford Norfolk Assembly Plant in 2007, Jan’s passion for healthcare led her to pursue a Master of Physician Assistant (MPA) degree at Eastern Virginia Medical School, which she completed in 2010. She further solidified her expertise by completing Paramedic training at Tidewater Community College in 2011.

With over 15 years of experience as a Physician Assistant and 25 years in emergency medical services, Jan specializes in Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Geriatrics, and Internal Medicine. She began her career with Sentara Medical Group, where she worked from January 2013 to December 2018, gaining invaluable clinical experience at various locations, including Sentara Independence Family Practice Walk-In Clinic, Sentara Little Neck Urgent Care, and Sentara Windermere LTC & Acute Rehabilitation Facility, and contributing to palliative care efforts. Jan’s diverse experience also includes roles at I & O Medical Clinics learning occupational medicine and is currently DOT-certified for physicals, Primecare Internal Medicine, and Emergency Physicians of Tidewater.
Since May 2023, Jan has been an integral member of the US Acute Care Solutions team at Sentara CarePlex Hospital and Sentara Port Warwick Emergency Room, where her dedication and expertise in emergency medical services enhance the quality of care provided to patients in the community.
