Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Douglas Adams, who serves patients in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Dr. Adams is a reputable orthopedic surgeon with Colorado Orthopedic Specialists, which is a part of HealthONE Physician Group. 

His specialty training includes procedures for hip arthroscopy and hip preservation surgery, sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery, and robotic total joint replacement surgery. His additional specialties include treatment of: hip impingement, hip labral tears, hip arthritis, avascular necrosis, tears of the gluteus medius and minimus, hamstring tears, ligament injuries of the knee, cartilage injury, shoulder instability, rotator cuff tears, shoulder impingement, AC joint injuries, ankle instability, ankle cartilage injuries, fractures, and tendon/ligament ruptures.

It is Dr. Adams’ firm belief that all injuries and chronic conditions are uniquely different to each patient and it is therefore important to build a relationship of trust and understanding to help achieve the best possible outcome. He upholds that many conditions can be successfully treated with non-operative modalities and this should be the first priority in treatment. In cases where surgery is necessary, utilizing the best resources and applying the most advanced surgical techniques in a cost-conscious manner is paramount.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Adams earned his Medical Degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine in 2007, graduating in the top 10% of his class with the honor of Alpha Omega Alpha membership. He then completed his internship and residency training at Madigan Army Medical Center and affiliated University of Washington Hospital System. To boot, he completed a Traveling Fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma Surgery at various sites, including Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Board certified in orthopedic surgery, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Receiving an honorable discharge as Lieutenant Colonel, Dr. Adams enjoyed a successful 16 year military career in the Air Force and Army. During his time with the Armed Forces, he held the position of Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Fort Stewart, Georgia; Baghdad, Iraq; and Fort Carson, Colorado. He completed two combat deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq and provided humanitarian orthopedic care through SIGN Fracture Care International organization.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

When not working with patients, Dr. Adams enjoys spending time with his lovely wife and their four children, fly fishing with his dog, exploring the outdoors, and tending the grill on a beautiful Colorado day.
