Get to know Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist Dr. Amy K. Schutt, who serves patients in Houston, Texas.

An expert reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist, Dr. Schutt specializes in the care and treatment of reproductive and hormonal disorders. Her professional interests include polycystic ovary syndrome, developmental origins of health and disease, assisted reproductive technology outcomes, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, as well as female and male infertility.

Currently, she is an attending at Texas Children’s Hospital, a nationally-ranked, freestanding 973-bed, acute care women’s and children’s hospital located in Houston, Texas.

She offers state-of-the-art therapies delivered with a uniquely compassionate approach that comes from her own experience as an infertility patient. Her own daughter was conceived through in-vitro fertilization (IVF), heightening her passion for advancing the field of reproductive health and her understanding of what her patients are going through.

A skilled surgeon, Dr. Schutt has extensive training in groundbreaking techniques that bring new hope in even the most challenging reproductive and endocrinology cases, including rare congenital anomalies of the reproductive tract. She finds it highly rewarding to provide continuity of care for her patients, helping women achieve conception following successful surgical treatment.

Alongside her clinical role, she serves as an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Baylor College of Medicine.

The Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Baylor College of Medicine offers women the latest advancements in assisted reproductive technologies, including IVF, as well as expert treatment of endocrine disorders and menopause-related health issues. Part of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, it is advancing women’s health through excellence in clinical care, research, and education. 

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Schutt earned her medical degree from Texas Tech University School of Medicine, where she was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA). She followed this up with a residency in obstetrics and gynecology with the University of Virginia Health System, and a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Baylor College of Medicine. 

Board-eligible in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, she is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Furthermore, she is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The ABOG is a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada.

A dedicated researcher, Dr. Schutt’s studies are advancing the treatment and understanding of reproductive and endocrinology disorders, including the influence of maternal health factors such as diet and obesity on a woman’s fertility and the long-term health of her baby.

Reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) is a surgical subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology that trains physicians in reproductive medicine addressing hormonal functioning as it pertains to the reproduction, as well as the issue of infertility. While most REI specialists primarily focus on the treatment of infertility, reproductive endocrinologists are trained to also evaluate and treat hormonal dysfunctions in females and males outside after the reproductive years.
