Mount Sinai South Nassau is a 378-bed hospital that provides a wide variety of medical care, excelling in cancer care, cardiac and orthopedic services. After earning her Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Biology / Anthropology from Franklin & Marshall College in 1984, Melanie went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from the Sophie Davis Biomedical Education and Physician Assistant Program – City College of New York in 1987. Years later, in 2001, she earned her Master of Science (MS) degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Since graduating, she has undertaken a number of advanced training courses and acquired additional certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, IV Therapy, and Fetal Electronic Monitoring.

To stay current with the new developments and guidelines in her field, Melanie remains an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the New York State Society of Physician Assistants. She has dedicated her life to delivering the highest standard of quality and compassionate care to her patients, and she strives to provide the best outcomes possible.

A physician assistant is a health care practitioner who practices medicine in collaboration with physicians. They examine patients, prescribe medicine, and order diagnostic tests. In most cases, they work under the supervision of physicians or surgeons, but they can work more independently in some states, rural areas, and inner-city areas, consulting with physicians only when they need help with cases.

Since 2003, Melanie has been serving as a volunteer for disaster and humanitarian relief at Bethlehem Assembly of God in Valley Stream, New York. She attributes her success to truly caring for her patients, as well as staying current with the latest changes in her field. 

In her spare time, she enjoys kayaking and bike riding.
