Get to know Dermatologist Dr. Sam Awan, who serves patients in McKinney, Texas.

A committed dermatologist, Dr. Awan is affiliated with US Dermatology Partners, seeing patients at their office in McKinney, Texas. His special interests include the detection and prevention of skin cancer, treating acne and psoriasis, and cosmetic dermatology. He takes particular interest in managing skin rashes from emerging cancer therapies.

“The variety of dermatology makes every day new and exciting. A typical day involves skin cancer screenings, aesthetic consultations, surgical procedures and the management of complex rashes that patients have lived with for years. The best part of the job is developing lasting relationships with patients and families from all backgrounds and walks of life” expressed the doctor.

Academically, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Illinois Wesleyan University. He graduated with his medical degree and completed his internship at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. His residency in dermatology was completed at the University of Connecticut, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD), the doctor is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology, which is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.

During his time at the University of Connecticut, Dr. Awan trained under world leaders in psoriasis and skin cancer. He lectures regularly to dermatologists and other physicians, serves as a reviewer for leading peer-reviewed journals, and presents at local and national dermatology conferences.

A dermatologist is a specialist doctor who manages skin diseases and deals with both internal and external causes and some cosmetic concerns involving the skin. Dermatological duties include taking consultations, providing screening tests, and undertaking non-invasive surgical procedures.

An avid sports fan, Dr. Awan spends time playing basketball, biking, and traveling. He also enjoys writing short stories and novels.
