Leading ESG Surgeon at Eviva Delivers Innovative, Patient-Centered Care Across Washington

Dr. Brandon VanderWel, MD, a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon based at Eviva in Shoreline, Washington, is making national waves with his expertise in minimally invasive weight-loss procedures. He became the first physician in the Pacific Northwest to offer Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) and has since become the busiest and most experienced ESG provider in the Western United States.

Dr. VanderWel has been instrumental in shifting the focus of bariatric care toward personalized, holistic treatment. He emphasizes treating patients as integrated individuals rather than addressing isolated symptoms. His team-centric approach and patient-first ethos have helped thousands successfully navigate their weight-loss journeys.

A dedicated pioneer of ESG, Dr. VanderWel not only leads by example as the region’s most prolific practitioner but also plays a key role in training other surgeons. He regularly instructs ESG courses and is frequently invited to speak at both national and international medical conferences, cementing his reputation as a leading voice in metabolic and minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. VanderWel earned his MD from Loma Linda University in California, completed surgical residency at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, and pursued a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland. He is board-certified in general surgery and is a Candidate Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Originally from Colorado, Dr. VanderWel and his family now call Washington home. When not transforming patient lives, he enjoys biking, hiking, camping, and capturing the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest through photography.
