Get to know Physician Assistant, Charles Dean, who serves patients in Houston, Texas.

Charles is a well-trained emergency medicine physician assistant currently affiliated with Akahi Associates, LLC in Houston, Texas.

With over 21 years of experience in the field, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. He has spent 14 years working in emergency medicine, specifically in Level I and II trauma facilities, giving him a great amount of experience dealing with critically ill and injured patients.

With an impressive educational background, Charles holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from UT Health San Antonio, and a Master’s degree in Family Medicine from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in emergency medicine at the Brooke Army Medical Center, one of the premier military medical facilities in the country. 

Well-suited for any emergency medicine related roles, his passion for these activities reflects his physical and mental discipline. He is board-certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), which is the only certifying organization for PAs in the United States.

In addition to his professional qualifications, Charles is an active member of the Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants and the Texas Association of Physician Assistants.

A Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) is a health care practitioner who practices medicine in collaboration with physicians.  PAs are medical professionals, educated in the medical model to complement physician training, and assist the physician in many aspects of the practice. PAs are trained to take medical histories, perform physical examinations, order and interpret laboratory tests, diagnose illness, develop and manage treatment plans, prescribe medications, and assist in surgery.

On a more personal note, Charles attributes his success to many years of hard work and great educators/mentors that he has been associated with. 

When not working, he enjoys an active lifestyle, engaging in hobbies such as hunting, shooting, cycling, and weightlifting.
