Get to know Endocrinologist Dr. Pavel John Nockel, who serves patients in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Dr. Nockel is a general surgeon who provides diagnosis and surgical treatment of a wide range of diseases that can affect almost any area of the body. He specializes in the surgical management of endocrine-related health problems, including thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal diseases, as well as neuroendocrine tumors.

Currently, he is an attending physician at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital, which serves the greater Albuquerque and the east mountain communities. This satellite medical campus provides a wide range of medical care, including behavioral health, a wide range of surgical services, adult medical specialties, cancer care, rehabilitation, and an emergency department.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Nockel received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology in Minneapolis. He then earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. 

Furthering his training, he completed a residency in general surgery at St. Louis University. He then went on to complete a two-year clinical fellowship in endocrine surgery and oncology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Cancer Institute.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Endocrinology is a branch of biology and medicine dealing with the endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions known as hormones. Endocrinologists have the training to diagnose and treat hormone imbalances and problems by helping to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body. The common diseases and disorders of the endocrine system that endocrinologists deal with include diabetes mellitus, as well as adrenal, pituitary, and thyroid disorders, among others.

In his free time, Dr. Nockel enjoys spending time with his family, playing soccer, traveling, and learning new languages.
