Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Ian Persaud, who serves patients in Norfolk, Virginia.

Dedicating his career to heart health, Dr. Persaud is in practice at JenCare Senior Medical Center in Norfolk, Virginia. Whether researching lifestyle choices and risk factors, or talking to patients about their personal histories, his passion for exploring cardiovascular issues is clear and convincing.

Back in 2005, Dr. Persaud graduated with his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the SUNY Downstate Health Science Center in 2008 and 2012, respectively.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In good standing with a number of professional organizations, he is an active member of the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, and the American Medical Association.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

On a more personal note, Dr. Persaud’s dedication to matters of the heart has continued outside of the clinic. His work with prison ministry and church ministries has taken him to medical clinics in many parts of the world. He keeps his own heart healthy, enjoying football, swimming, healthy cooking and movies.
