Get to know Licensed Clinical Social Worker Meekah J. Reeves, who serves the population of New Jersey. Meekah completed her undergraduate degree with an Associates or Arts and Bachelor of Arts before furthering her education and graduated with a Master of Social Work from Columbia University in 2008, giving her over a decade of experience in her field. Meekah is a Licensed Clinical Worker with the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System, where she holds an expertise in corporate and individual counseling, veteran women’s issues, self care, education, and motivational speaker. She attributes her professional success to her amazing parents who showed her how to love and her faith in Christ. When she is not working she volunteers her time with Big Brother and Sister and enjoys singing professionally. Social Work is an academic discipline and profession that concerns itself with individuals, families, groups and communities in an effort to enhance social functioning and overall well-being. Social functioning refers to the way in which people perform their social roles, and the structural institutions that are provided to sustain them. Social work applies social sciences, such as sociology, psychology, political science, public health, community development, law, and economics, to engage with client systems, conduct assessments, and develop interventions to solve social and personal problems; and create social change. Social work practice is often divided into micro-work, which involves working directly with individuals or small groups; and macro-work, which involves working communities, and within social policy, to create change on a larger scale.
