Surgeon
173 Mineola Blvd 401 Mineola NY, 11501About
Dr. Ricardo Jacquez is a general surgeon in Mineola, NY and is affiliated with NYU Winthrop Hospital. He received his medical degree from University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He specializes in trauma surgery, surgical critical care, and acute care surgery (emergency general surgery).
Born in El Paso, Texas, Dr Jacquez began his first of many careers working as a grip and set electrician for the motion picture industry in Texas, New Mexico, and California. He worked on many commercials and feature films such as "Committed" starring Heather Graham, "Traffic" starring Benicio Del Toro , and "Courage Under Fire" starring Denzel Washington. In between projects Dr Jacquez also worked as a graphic designer, website developer, art gallery manager, and operated a small art house cinema which sought to bring award winning art and foreign films to the University of Texas at El Paso. Dr Jacquez's two proudest achievements were screening the very controversial 1997 film "Lolita" starring Jeremy Irons for the university community. His second achievement was designing a poster for Jesus Christ Superstar which was signed by Tim Rice and returned as a gift. His career path transitioned into music where he served as Sun Bowl Stadium production coordinator for tours featuring George Strait, Ricky Martin, N*SYNC, and The Rolling Stones.
His career path then took an altruistic turn. He left show business to serve the community of El Paso county as a Licensed Paramedic, and Field Training Officer for many years. His work in EMS gave him the nickname JJ and triggered his drive to become a surgeon. He graduated from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 2012 and completed general surgical residency at New York Presbyterian Queens in 2018. Immediately after graduation he joined Stony Brook University Hospital where he completed fellowship in surgical critical care in 2019. His career path eventually leads him to New York University Winthrop hospital where he hoped to make a real impact on their nascent surgical residency and medical school. His current projects focus on surgical education, medical education, and a biography of the first critical care trained physician assistant in New York city, the pioneer Ronald Combs. To this day nurses, doctors, his patients, and their families know him simply as JJ.
