Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Jonathan Lo, who serves patients in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Licensed to practice medicine in New York and Hawaii, Dr. Lo is a talented ophthalmologist who is affiliated with The Queen’s Medical Center. He is medically trained to diagnose, monitor, and medically or surgically treat all ocular and visual disorders.

The Queen’s Medical Center, originally named and still commonly referred to as Queen’s Hospital, is the largest private non-profit hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. The institution was founded in 1859 by Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV with a mission “to fulfill the intent of Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV to provide in perpetuity quality health care services to improve the well-being of Native Hawaiians and all of the people of Hawaii.”

The doctor’s journey into medicine began after he earned his medical degree from the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine in 2016. He then went on to perform his internship in internal medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine at Elmhurst in 2017, followed by his residency in ophthalmology at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai in 2020.

In order to stay up to date in his field, Dr. Lo remains an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Medical Association.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
