Back in the early days of his academic career, he completed his undergraduate studies at Columbia University, and obtained his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medicine. He completed his residency at the prestigious New York Presbyterian Hospital, encompassing both the Columbia University and Cornell University campuses, as well as Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. During his residency, he received comprehensive training in adult and pediatric otolaryngology, head, and neck surgery, honing his skills across all facets of the specialty.

In order to further his training, Dr. Donatelli pursued a fellowship in rhinology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. This advanced training focused on employing minimally invasive techniques to treat nasal and sinus disorders. During his time at Johns Hopkins, he served as an Instructor in Otolaryngology, actively contributing to the education of residents. He developed expertise in managing complex sinus issues, particularly those cases that had not been resolved by previous sinus surgery. He gained proficiency in treating sinus papillomas, as well as benign and cancerous tumors of the sinuses.

As a testament of his continued education, the doctor is board-certified in otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, which is a non-profit corporation that has set the mission of ensuring professional standards with certificates and memberships and has offered training in the fields of head neck surgery to professionals since 1924.
