  • Can a social worker help improve my son's behavior?

There are several options available in the school system to help a student, but it seems, in my experience, the parents have to be actively involved in pursuing the services for their child. One option is to request an Individual Education Plan for your son where you can add counseling, evaluation by the school’s psychologist, and any additional services available through the school that can help make your son’s educational experience a success. • When should a social worker be called?

Any time you, in good faith, suspect a child is in danger or in an unsafe environment, it is best to call your local child protection hotline. They can assist you with further evaluating the situation and determining whether or not to send out a protective services worker to further evaluate the safety of the child’s environment. Even if the child is not the target of the screaming, it creates an unsafe environment for the child that can have long lasting, trauma associated disruptions in the child’s decision-making process long into adulthood. At least in California, domestic violence between partners/ parents is considered child abuse when it occurs in the presence of the child. READ MORE

No they are not the same thing. A social worker may not be trained in victim advocacy or trauma recovery. READ MORE
