Get to know Pulmonologist Dr. Priya V. Borker, who serves patients in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Recognized as a caring and compassionate pulmonologist, Dr. Borker is affiliated with the UPMC Comprehensive Lung Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She specializes in obstructive and central sleep apnea, insomnia, hypersomnia and general pulmonary medicine.

In regards to her educational background, she graduated from SUNY Stony Brook University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacology. She received her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University in 2014 with Honors and Distinction in Research and was also inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society. Finally, she completed both her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary disease and sleep medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Passionate about her profession, the doctor is board-certified in pulmonary disease, sleep medicine and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Interested in understanding how sleep contributes to adverse health outcomes, Dr. Borker is currently investigating the biological mechanisms by which sleep dysregulation predisposes to inflammation and cardiovascular disease in persons with chronic HIV infection. Her past research has included utilizing polysomnogram measures to subphenotype obstructive sleep apnea and examining the incidence of subclinical interstitial lung abnormalities in patients with underlying obstructive sleep apnea. She also has several publications in the Journal of Neuroscience examining conformational changes of NMDA receptor proteins during gating.

A pulmonologist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions and diseases that affect the lungs, bronchial tubes, and the respiratory system, including the nose, pharynx, and throat.
