A fellowship-trained head and neck cancer, skull base and microvascular reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Abt is in practice at Charlotte Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates, working with patients at their SouthPark office. His practice is distinguished by his expertise in treating a spectrum of conditions, ranging from skin cancers to tumors affecting the upper aerodigestive tract, sinuses, thyroid, and parathyroid glands. 

With a commitment to holistic patient care, he not only focuses on cancer removal but also on the vital aspect of reconstructive surgery, aiming to restore both form and function. His proficiency extends to advanced techniques such as minimally invasive robotic surgery, particularly in the oropharynx, pharynx, and larynx, enabling precise interventions with reduced recovery times.

Moreover, Dr. Abt’s adeptness in utilizing minimally invasive endoscopic methods for complex sinus surgery and skull base tumor removal underscores his dedication to cutting-edge approaches for patient benefit. 

Graduating as valedictorian and commencement speaker with an undergraduate degree in microbiology and cell science from the University of Florida, he proceeded to distinguish himself at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree and was honored with induction into the esteemed Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Subsequently, Dr. Abt honed his surgical skills through residency at Harvard Medical School, followed by a fellowship at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, where he immersed himself in the complexities of head and neck surgical oncology, skull base surgery, and microvascular reconstructive surgery.

Remaining up to date in his field, he is an active member of the American Head & Neck Society, the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, the Triological Society, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.
On a more personal note, Dr. Abt enjoys golfing, fishing, hiking, skiing, and spending time with his family and dog. Together, they enjoy exploring from the mountains to the beaches of North Carolina and beyond.
