Get to know Vascular Surgeon Dr. Anahita Dua, who serves patients in Boston, Massachusetts.

A respected vascular surgeon, Dr. Dua seamlessly blends her roles as an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and a distinguished vascular surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital.

At the helm of various crucial departments, she orchestrates pivotal initiatives as the Co-Director of the Peripheral Artery Disease Center, Associate Director of the Wound Care Program, and Director of Clinical Research and Director of the Vascular Lab (Waltham). Her specialized focus spans an array of intricate conditions, from peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and diabetic limb disease to aortic, carotid, and venous disorders, showcasing her mastery in both endovascular and open surgical techniques. She runs a clinic for homeless vascular patients as well as an NIH funded research lab that focuses on clotting studies in patients with lower limb vascular diseases. 

Education-wise, Dr. Dua’s formative years saw her traversing continents, completing her medical education in the United Kingdom before completing her general surgery residency in Wisconsin. She did her vascular surgery training at Stanford. Alongside her medical credentials, her academic repertoire shines with a master’s degree in trauma sciences, an MBA in Healthcare Management, and certificates in health economics, outcomes research, and drug and device development from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Dua was also a 2023 Bill Clinton and George Bush Presidential Leadership Scholar. 

Triple board-certified in general surgery, vascular surgery, and advanced wound care, she is also the Director of the Clinical Approach to Vascular Ultrasound Harvard Course, imparting invaluable knowledge to aspiring vascular surgeons and frequently an invited speaker internationally. 

The depth of her expertise is mirrored in her extensive body of scholarly work, comprising over 190 peer-reviewed papers and five edited textbooks in vascular surgery. Beyond her contributions to academia, she plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of vascular surgery through her involvement in national committees, notably with the Society for Vascular Surgery and other esteemed vascular organizations including the Society for Vascular Ultrasound Foundation of which she is the President and the South Asian Society for Vascular Surgery where she is also the current president.

Vascular surgery is a specialized field focused on the treatment of diseases affecting the vascular system, including arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation. Vascular surgeons are adept at managing these conditions through a combination of medical therapy, minimally invasive procedures, and surgical reconstruction.
