Dr. Sampson-Mills serves as a staff psychiatrist within the Bridge Residential Program for adults at The Menninger Clinic located in Houston, Texas. Additionally, she holds the position of Assistant Professor in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine, where she was honored with the Eugen Kahn Award for Excellence in 2019.

 In January 2023, Dr. Sampson-Mills began her term on the Wright State University Alumni Association Board of Directors. ⁣Her professional interests include forensic psychiatry, medical education, and community mental health, and she embraces her personal mission of serving the underserved in her work.

In terms of her academic background, Dr. Sampson-Mills earned her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Spelman College and her Medical degree From Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. She then completed her residency in psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine, followed by her fellowship in forensic psychiatry at State University of New York – Upstate Medical University.

With an unwavering commitment to her speciality, Dr. Sampson-Mills is board certified in adult and forensic psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Moreover, she has specialized training in electroconvulsive therapy.

On a professional level, Dr. Sampson-Mills is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, and the Black Psychiatrists of America, Inc.

Her peer-reviewed articles on managing suicidal adolescents was published in the journal Adolescent Psychiatry and materialized oppression in inpatient psychiatric units was published in the American Journal of Bioethics. Her presentation topics include depression, anxiety, postpartum depression, and mental health related to the Black community.

Forensic psychiatry, which Dr. Sampson-Mills’ has an area of expertise, is a subspeciality of psychiatry and is related to mental health and the law. A forensic psychiatrist provides services including but are not limited to assessments for fitness for duty, competency to stand trial and other areas where a psychiatrist is needed for a legal matter.

In her spare time, Dr. Sampson-Mills enjoys traveling, connecting with friends and spending quality time with her family.
