Get to know Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Carey L. Watson, who serves patients in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Dr. Watson, a board certified pediatric surgeon, practices at Great Lakes Pediatric Surgeons, Inc. in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Since 2023, he has been serving as the Chairman of Surgery at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana and as the Pediatric Trauma Medical Director at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Complementing his clinical roles, he educates medical students as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Academically, Dr. Watson obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas Tech University in 2006 and his Medical Degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in 2010. He pursued his surgical residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center from 2010 to 2017, followed by a fellowship in pediatric surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston from 2017 to 2019.

Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board certified in both general surgery and pediatric surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Alongside his status as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Dr. Watson is an active member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association.

Pediatric surgery is a subspecialty of surgery involving the surgery of fetuses, infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. Pediatric surgeons are doctors who specialize in treating children. They are trained to do operations on infants, children, and young adults.

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Watson enjoys farming, beekeeping, and homesteading. He acknowledges his wife, family, and his deep affection for the children he cares for every day as key factors contributing to his success.
