Get to know Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician Dr. Christine S. Persaud, who serves patients in New Jersey.
Dr. Persaud is a primary care sports medicine physician at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and currently serves as Medical Director for the Division of Sports Medicine and the Program Director for the Sports Medicine Fellowship. She is renowned for providing thorough medical care to treat various conditions, including osteoarthritis, concussions, and joint pains.
Currently, Dr. Persaud serves as an attending physician for PSAL’s Brooklyn football teams and SUNY Downstate’s Walk-In Injury Clinic. She is also the team physician at her alma mater, Brooklyn Technical High School.
As for her academic appointment, she serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitative Medicine at Downstate Health Sciences University.
Dr. Persaud is also the owner of TruAlly Medical, located in West Orange, NJ. TruAlly Medical specializes in Sports Medicine, Weight Loss Medicine and Primary Care.
With regards to her educational background, Dr. Persaud earned her medical degree from the Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica in the West Indies and completed her clinical rotations in New York City. She completed her family medicine residency training at Stony Brook University Medical Center in Stony Brook, Long Island. There, she was appointed as Chief Resident and was awarded the Society of Teachers in Family Medicine (STFM) Award as well as the Chairman’s Award. She went on to serve as a Fellow in non-operative sports medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center, specializing in Primary Care Sports Medicine.
Dr. Persaud earned her Masters in Business Administration at the University of Massachusetts- Amherst.
Dr. Persaud is board-certified in both family medicine and sports medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice family medicine and its sub-specialties.
Furthermore, she is board-certified in obesity medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM). The ABOM serves the public and the field of obesity medicine by maintaining standards for assessment and credentialing physicians. Certification as an ABOM diplomate signifies specialized knowledge in the practice of obesity medicine and distinguishes a physician as having achieved competency in obesity care.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP), Dr. Persaud is also an active member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine.
Sports medicine is a branch of medicine that deals with physical fitness and the treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise.
