What are the problems with prosthetic limbs?
Finding funding to afford them, having insurance benefits that cover appropriate prostheses without limitations to coverage or exclusions. Prostheses require custom fitting and the ability for you to see a prosthesis several times to attain a good fit and maintained proper function. Socket fit is critical and may require adjustments by your prosthetist. A good understanding of limb volume management with adjustable socket systems ie click medical BOA or Vacuum assisted socket systems and use of volume management socks are important to review with your prosthetist to improve your experience and functional use of a prosthesis. Do prosthetic limbs hurt?
They should not hurt. A prosthetist should be able to create a socket interface that accommodates your residual.limb appropriately to allow use without pain. READ MORE
Can hand nerve damage be fixed?
In some cases nerve injuries can be resolved but a consultation with a neurologist andor physical medicine rehabilitation physician can provide a prognosis and recomended treatments which could include surgery or therapy. READ MORE
Are prosthetic limbs permanent?
Prosthetic limbs are not permanent, the components ie foot, knee, hand, elbow joints are modular task specific purpose designedselected components and average 35 year life with normal use. The socket ie interface that attaches these components to the bodyresidual limb is custom made per individuals specific anthropopetric measurements and shape and is replaced more frequently to keep the prosthesis fitting appropriately as the residuum changes shape and size requiring updated fittings on a regular basis. Consultations with prosthetists are typically free of charge and can provide a custom tailored treatment plan that suits your specific needs. READ MORE
