Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Prathibha Surapaneni, who serves patients in San Antonio, Texas.

A trusted hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Surapaneni is in practice at The START Center for Cancer Care in San Antonio, Texas. She treats both benign/malignant hematology and treats all solid tumor types with a special interest in breast, gastrointestinal cancers, and lymphomas.

Pertaining to her educational pursuits, Dr. Surapaneni completed her fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2020.  Prior to this, she completed her residency in internal medicine at the Texas Tech University Health Science Center, Permian Basin in 2017. She received her medical degree from the NRI Medical College in India in 2009. During her residency and fellowship, she was an active participant in both translational and clinical research, working on primary brain tumors.

Among her other roles, she can be found on staff at Methodist Hospital, and Methodist Hospital Stone Oak.

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, malignant blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, and a rare hematologic related syndromes, and diseases.
