Get to know Medical Intensivist Dr. Braghadheeswar Thyagarajan, who serves patients in Richland, Washington.

Dr. Thyagarajan is a competent and versatile medical intensivist with Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington. There, he manages medical ICU patients, post-cardiac surgery ICU patients, post-neurosurgery ICU patients, and post-surgical ICU patients.

For more than 75 years, Kadlec has been the leading health care organization in the region, offering primary and specialty care to patients in the Tri-Cities and surrounding area. As a not-for-profit community health system with more than 4,000 caregivers and volunteers, Kadlec is committed to its mission of providing safe, compassionate care.

Educated in India, Dr. Thyagarajan graduated with his medical degree from Madras Medical College in 2013. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency at Monmouth Medical Center in 2017, and his fellowship in nephrology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2019.

Triple board-certified in internal medicine, nephrology, and critical care medicine, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Distinguished with fellowship status, Dr. Thyagarajan is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).

Intensive care medicine, also called critical care medicine, is a medical specialty that deals with seriously or critically ill patients who have, are at risk of, or are recovering from conditions that may be life-threatening. An intensivist, also known as a critical care doctor, is a medical practitioner who specializes in the care of critically ill patients, most often in the intensive care unit (ICU). They can be internists or internal medicine sub-specialists (most often pulmonologists), anesthesiologists, emergency medicine physicians, pediatricians (including neonatologists) or surgeons who have completed a fellowship in critical care medicine. 

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Thyagarajan enjoys hiking, playing piano, and guitar.
