A native of the Tampa Bay area, Dr. McConnell received her bachelor’s degree in both psychology and microbiology & cell science from the University of Florida. She was part of the inaugural medical school class and earned her medical degree from the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University. She then went on to complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where she served as chief resident in her final year and was part of the wellness initiative within her program.
During residency, Dr. McConnell presented research on the effects of pessaries on the vaginal microenvironment at a national conference and was published in the Gold Journal. She also took a special interest in da Vinci robotic surgery and became robotic certified.
Giving patients her focused attention, the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.
A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), Dr. McConnell is also a member of the American Medical Women’s Association.
