LGBTQ+ individuals from conservative families struggle to live their truth. Immigrant families navigate culture clashes. Gender affirming care using the World Professional Association for Transgender Health Standards of Care (WPATH-SOC) is imperative. Partners from different cultural backgrounds may want support to understand family dynamics and planning. Navigating the root causes of depression, anxiety, and trauma is essential to healing and prevention. Psychological assessments can inform therapy and be used for workman’s compensation, preemployment, and fitness-for-duty, especially in police and public safety personnel.
As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Malak provides individual and couples therapy utilizing evidenced-based, integrated care by collaborating with other providers and supports. Dr. Malak is particularly attuned to supporting multicultural couples, faith transitions, sexual concerns, and trauma. She also conduct psychological assessments.

An eating disorder specialist can help people whose obesity is caused by binge eating disorder. In most states, only licensed psychologists can complete such testing. READ MORE
Will antidepressants stop my panic attacks?
I am a psychologist without prescription privileges, which means I do not prescribe medications to patients. Can CBT help with obesity?
CBT can help with many mental illnesses, including binge eating disorder which sometimes leads to obesity. Obesity can be caused by other factors too though like genetics, lack of access to nutrition-rich foods, lack of access to exercise facilities or safe spaces to exercise outdoors, etc. Other psychological treatment modalities can also be helpful usually requiring coordination between a therapist and a dietician to support the patient's goals to restore weight if that is needed. What does a psychiatrist do for anxiety?
Psychiatrists usually prescribe medications, so they may prescribe a medication to treat your anxiety. There are some psychiatrists who still do psychotherapy as well, although this is rather rare in today's world with psychologists, licensed counselors, social workers, and other mental health professionals doing psychotherapy today. Evidence indicates psychotherapy and psychotropic medications combined tend to lead to the fastest decrease in anxiety symptoms, although some people prefer or can only access one treatment or the other. Any treatment is usually better than none, so that choice depends on availability, fitness of medication management depending on each patient's biology, and individual preferences for each patient.
