Can chronic tiredness be fixed with acupuncture?
Hi! Absolutely -- Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture assesses the whole body via our meridian systems. These meridians are like pathways that govern the flow of our qi energyand blood more than just the red stuff as in Western thought. Imagine a pile of debris or rocks that creates a blockage in a small stream - this creates too much water in one area and not enough in another area. Our meridians will take on blockages and weaknesses over time as well. With the insertion of the hair-fine acupuncture needles into specific acupuncture points on the body, we can elicit movement to unblock these areas and allow for a more connected & smoother flow of qi & blood throughout the body. Subsequently, with better flow, the body doesn't have to work as hard to do its job and that, in turn, can provide more usable energy to lift the tiredness/fatigue. With any chronic case which is my specialty to assess chronic conditions, I take the time to evaluate, insert a few needles, evaluate your pulses which is our diagnostic method, insert a few more needles, and really study how your meridians can & cannot unblock/move to properly share the resources of qi, blood, yin & yang. The goal with acupuncture is to have treatments over time - especially with chronic cases - to rebalance the meridians and create momentum; this may mean a few weekly sessions, then a few every-other-week sessions and then we can find a supportive timing for you. I don't believe that seeing an acupuncturist 3 x week for weeks, and having 30 needles inserted all at once without assessing what a chronically tired body can actually respond to may always be the right fit. This approach may work very well for acute pain/injury. Therefore, this classical style of acupuncture allows more time to assess, needle, and follow what your body can/can't do in each session to rebuild, strengthen, and create momentum, so that your body can find more usable energy long term. I hope this makes sense & answers your question. Please don't hesitate to reach out with further questions! Warmly, Fuyiu - - - - - Fuyiu Yip, MAOM, Dipl. O.M. NCCAOM, L.Ac.
