A man of many titles, Dr. Lindenberg, or as the kids call him “Dr. Steve”, is a forensic parent alienation/ custody evaluator, mental health counselor, life coach, collaborative divorce coach, reunification therapist, and special education advocate.
In private practice since 1993, he is the Owner & Operator of The Lindenberg Institute For Therapy in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He has a lifelong passion for and commitment to helping others solve their problems whether they be individual, family, career, legal, or interpersonal.

Having worked in parental alienation for over four decades, he specializes in reunification counseling, parental alienation counseling, and divorce mediation. He has extensive experience in the court settings, having been the court-appointed custody evaluator and expert witness in over 500 cases, with over 2,000 hours of sworn testimony.
Born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Dr. Lindenberg received his Bachelor of Science degree from Millersville University of Pennsylvania in 1968. He then went on to earn his Master of Education degree in Secondary School Counseling from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania in 1974.
Following graduation with honors with his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Abnormal Psychology from the University of Georgia in 1977, Dr. Lindenberg joined Hershey Psychiatric Associates.
After 16 years in practice with two psychiatrists and a social worker, he felt the need to move to a solo practice. He named his practice The Lindenberg Institute for Therapy, serving as a solo practitioner since 1993.
In 1998, Dr. Lindenberg took a position as a school psychologist with the Central Dauphin School District in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Then, in 2004, he took a position as a school psychologist with IU 13 Lancaster-Lebanon where he specialized in working with children and teenagers with behavioral and emotional needs. He retired from that position in 2011.
On a professional level, Dr. Lindenberg is an active member of the Charter Life Mental Health Council Association and the Pennsylvania State Education Association.
Psychotherapy is the use of psychological methods, particularly when based on regular personal interaction, to help a person change behavior, increase happiness, and overcome problems. A mental health counselor assesses and treats mental and emotional health disorders, relationship issues, and life challenges. Through various methods of psychotherapy, counselors work with patients to develop meaningful behavior changes. They also offer coping strategies for navigating life’s struggles.
Among Dr. Lindenberg’s various accolades include American Spirit of Honor Medal – USAF 1968; Kappa Delta Pi – 1976; Phi Kappa Phi – 1978; Pennsylvania Counseling Association Eminent Practitioner Award -1988; Who’s Who In America – 1995; and Jesse S. Heiges Distinguished Alumnus Award, Shippensburg University – 1996.
