Get to know Pathologist Dr. Jennifer Vazzano, who serves patients in Columbus, Ohio.

An aspiring gastrointestinal pathologist, Dr. Vazzano has been serving as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology within the Department of Pathology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio since 2023. 

Her areas of research include gastrointestinal and liver pathology, digital pathology, and artificial intelligence.

Upon embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Vazzano graduated with her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2018. She then went on to perform both her residency and fellowship training at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in 2022 and 2023, respectively. 

Specializing in the study of bodily fluids and tissues, the doctor is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Osteopathic Board of Pathology (AOBPa). The AOBPa is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the diagnosis and characterization of disease in patients following thorough examination of biopsies and/or bodily fluids.

Continuously striving for excellence, Dr. Vazzno remains an active member of the Digital Pathology Association, the College of American Pathologists, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the Ohio Society of Pathologists, the American Osteopathic Association, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society.

Pathology is a branch of medical science that involves the study and diagnosis of disease through the examination of surgically removed organs, tissues, bodily fluids, and in some cases, the whole body. Pathologists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and management of diseases by laboratory methods.

Attributing her success to a wonderful support system – including her family, teachers, and colleagues along the way – Dr. Vazzano loves pathology because it allows her to be a detective to find the best outcomes for her patients.

On a more personal note, she has a passion for jet skiing, concerts, karaoke, and trivia.
