  • Can gum graft recession fix gum recession?

Hello, Yes, gum grafting can be an effective way to treat gum recession. Gum recession is a very common occurrence that typically happens as we age, hence the old saying, " getting long in the tooth ", which refers to our teeth appearing longer with the passing years as the bone and overlying gums slowly recede. It can affect younger patients as well, as many people are genetically and racially predisposed to having thin gums which are susceptible to recession even in the teen years. Gum grafting is a procedure that uses the patient's own gum tissue from either next to the tooth, or if multiple teeth are involved, donor tissue taken from the roof of the mouth, or donated cadaver skin, that will replace lost gum tissue. I would strongly recommend talking to your dentist about all options, risks and benefits, healing periods of each and cost associated with the procedure. Yours sincerely, Dr. Richard Busse, BSc, DMD READ MORE
