Get to know Interventional Radiologist Dr. Nirjhor M. Bhowmik, who serves patients in Virginia.

Dr. Bhowmik practices interventional radiology at Dominion Radiology Associates, and is affiliated with Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

Dominion Radiology Associates is a physician-owned practice that provides subspecialized diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology, and consulting services in Virginia and eastern North Carolina. The group was formed with a commitment to providing the highest quality services to the facilities and communities served.

Educated in the United States, Dr. Bhowmik graduated with his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in 2012. He then went on to perform his internship at Duke University Medical Center in 2013, his residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in 2017, and his fellowship in interventional radiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals in 2018.

As a testament of his continued education, the doctor is board-certified in diagnostic radiology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is a not-for-profit physician-led organization that oversees the certification and ongoing professional development of specialists in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.

Interventional radiology is a medical specialty that performs various minimally-invasive procedures using medical imaging guidance, such as x-ray fluoroscopy, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, or ultrasound. Interventional radiologists diagnose and treat disease. They treat a wide range of conditions in the body by inserting various small tools, such as catheters or wires from outside the body. X-ray and imaging techniques such as CT and ultrasound help guide the radiologist.
