As the only specialist in pediatric imaging between St. Petersburg and Miami, his goal is to help children, their families and physicians navigate each situation, while providing the utmost support and quality of care.

Get to know Pediatric Radiologist Dr. R. Nicholas Trane, who serves patients in Tampa and Sarasota, Florida.

An experienced pediatric radiologist specializing in nuclear / PET imaging, Dr. Trane serves as the local section head of pediatric radiology with Radiology Associates of Florida, P.A. He operates out of Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

As the only specialist in pediatric imaging between St. Petersburg and Miami, it is his goal to help families and physicians navigate through each situation while supporting the care of kids in Sarasota and those visiting with family.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Trane graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University in 1985 and his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in 1990. He then served his residency at the University of Cincinnati with rotations at MD Anderson in Texas, after which he performed his fellowship in pediatric radiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where he served as chief fellow.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in pediatric radiology and diagnostic radiology through the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is a not-for-profit physician-led organization that oversees the certification and ongoing professional development of specialists in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.

On a professional level, Dr. Trane is an active member of the Society of Pediatric Radiology, the Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology, and the Sarasota County Medical Society.

Pediatric radiology is a subspecialty of radiology involving the imaging of fetuses, infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. Pediatric radiologists are specially trained to understand the unique needs of children, parents, and pediatricians in the diagnostic process. Many pediatric radiologists practice at children’s hospitals.

With a love for his profession, Dr. Trane finds it a privilege to allow families with infants and children to remain local for all but the most challenging parts of their care.

Outside of practicing medicine, he enjoys playing tennis, pickleball, biking, golfing, and sailing.
