Get to know Veterinary Ophthalmologist Dr. Andrew Greller, who serves patients in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Greller is a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist and a prominent figure in his field. Since taking ownership of South Texas Veterinary Ophthalmology (STVO) in 2013, he has been dedicated to providing exceptional care to his patients. 

The team at STVO is dedicated to serving the pet loving community of San Antonio and all of south Texas. They are a principle-run practice built on the core values of honesty, hard work, compassion and trust. It is their mission to help heal patients with ophthalmology concerns so that they can live happy and healthy lives with minimal discomfort and healthy eyesight.

To begin his journey towards becoming a respected veterinarian, Dr. Greller obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology & Environmental Studies from the University of Michigan. He then pursued his passion for animal health by earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the prestigious University of Pennsylvania.

Following his formal education, he sought further training and expertise in veterinary ophthalmology. He completed a small animal internship at the Animal Ophthalmology Clinic in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas, immersing himself in the specialized field. Continuing his pursuit of excellence, he undertook a rigorous three-year ophthalmology residency in Phoenix, Arizona, honing his skills and deepening his knowledge in the intricate domain of animal eye care.
Recognized as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology (DACVO), he actively engages in various volunteer initiatives, lending his expertise to meaningful causes. He generously offers free annual examinations to Guide Dogs of Texas, an organization that provides essential assistance to individuals with visual impairments. Additionally, he selflessly assists the military working dogs at Lackland Air Force Base, recognizing the importance of their role and ensuring their ocular health.

Energetically committed to animal advocacy and environmental causes, Dr. Greller serves on the boards of Guide Dogs of Texas and the San Antonio Zoo, contributing to the well-being and conservation efforts of animals. Moreover, he is the proud owner of The Greller Gallery, an art space dedicated to inspiring and educating people on various animal and environmental causes.

In addition to working individual cases, he collaborates with renowned institutions such as SeaWorld-San Antonio and the San Antonio Zoo. His outstanding service and commitment to his community has been recognized, as he has been featured in several esteemed publications, including The Washington Post, The San Antonio Express-News, North Central News, San Antonio Magazine, and the San Antonio Business Journal.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. A veterinary ophthalmologist is a veterinarian who specializes exclusively in treating eye disorders in animals. 

As a testament to his commitment to his profession and his clients, Dr. Greller has been the recipient of numerous accolades. In 2013, his clients nominated him for the prestigious “Pick of the Litter” award by the San Antonio Area Foundation’s ‘Talk About It!’ campaign. 

In 2014, his clients once again acknowledged his remarkable contributions by nominating him for the San Antonio Business Journal’s ‘Health Care Heroes’ award. As a finalist in the “Rising Star” category, he was recognized for his exceptional accomplishments as a healthcare professional under the age of 40, making significant strides and leaving a lasting impact in the field.
