Get to know Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Dustin Bower, who serves patients in Fort Myers, Florida.

Dustin is an advanced practice registered nurse and a board certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner at Therapy Treatment Team. He offers comprehensive outpatient psychiatry services to individuals spanning all age groups, both in person and through telemedicine, across Tampa, Fort Myers, and Naples, Florida.

With nearly a decade of diverse nursing experience, Dustin’s background encompasses critical care, hospice, tele-neurology, and outpatient psychiatry. He takes pleasure in incorporating psychotherapeutic modalities based on cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and supportive principles into his practice.

His passion for psychiatric nursing stems from his interest in the biopsychosocial impact of both mental and medical illness at the community level. Dustin is motivated by the opportunity to help people improve their quality of life, reduce their suffering, and achieve their goals. He places a high value on continuous learning, collaboration, and innovative approaches within his profession.

His academic journey includes an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing Science from Davis and Elkins College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Science from Davis and Elkins College, a Master of Science in Nursing Degree in Nursing Science from Bradley University, and a Postgraduate Degree in Advanced Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing from Nova Southeastern University.

As a full-time faculty member at Rasmussen University, Dustin teaches and mentors nursing students in various courses and programs, including psychiatric-mental health nursing, pharmacology, and pathophysiology. His primary interests include topics related to mental health nursing, psychopharmacology, neurobiology, and psychotherapy.

An Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) is a nurse with postgraduate education in nursing. ARNPs can have primary responsibility for patient care. They practice independently to limited supervision depending on state regulations and also may work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals. Additional ARNP roles include certified registered nurse anesthetists and certified nurse midwives.

In the United States, a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) is an advanced practice registered nurse who holds board certification and is trained to provide a wide range of mental health services to patients and families in a variety of settings. PMHNPs diagnose, conduct therapy, and prescribe medications for patients who have psychiatric disorders, medical organic brain disorders or substance abuse problems. They are licensed to provide emergency psychiatric services, psychosocial and physical assessment of their patients, treatment plans, and manage patient care. They may also serve as consultants or as educators for families and staff.
