Smithfield, Rhode Island – Marc Washington, PA, is an award-winning general surgery physician assistant known for his expertise in metabolic weight loss and bariatric surgery. With a career spanning over a decade, he has established himself as a leader in the field, demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication to patient care.

In his line of work, Marc handles initial consultations, postoperative check-ups, and office visits for various concerns. He excels in bedside treatments and takes pride in his expertise in gastric band adjustments and minimizing scars from surgical wound closures.

Marc’s specialization includes laparoscopic and robotic surgery, with a remarkable track record of over 3,000 weight loss surgeries performed as a first assistant. His contributions were instrumental in founding a MBS-AQIP Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence in Binghamton, New York. Beyond bariatric surgery, Marc has assisted in over 5,000 surgical cases, showcasing his versatility in endocrine, colorectal, and general surgery procedures.

A proud native of Binghamton, New York, Marc graduated from the University of Hawaii with a double-major Bachelor’s Degree. He then went on to earn his Master’s in Health Sciences with a concentration in Physician Assistant Studies from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut in 2011.

Marc’s wide breadth of experience and skill includes previous award-winning healthcare services in Las Vegas, Nevada where he was honored as the Desert Diamond Award winner.  His professional service was also recognized in reader polls as Top Bariatric Service and Top Hospital by Las Vegas Magazine for two consecutive years.

Upon his relocation to Rhode Island, Marc was hence rapidly celebrated as a standout provider among the specialty, included as a 2024 Featured Provider by Best in Rhode Island Magazine – Doctor Edition.

In addition to his clinical practice, Marc is a dedicated researcher and presenter, having shared his insights at prominent medical conferences, including the Society for Neuroscience and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. His commitment to excellence extends beyond the operating room, as he has served as an on-site expert for multiple pharmaceutical companies.

Marc attributes his success to his family, including his supportive wife and two bright children, who have always been there for him through various adventures. He credits his father, a former professional firefighter chief, paramedic, and EMS coordinator, for inspiring his early professional development. His mother, a longtime lifeguarding instructor and volunteer coordinator for the Red Cross, played a pivotal role in his interests in lifesaving. Marc also recognizes his older brother for partly shaping his character and protecting him in his youth, and his sister and brother-in-law for their selfless support during his family’s relocation to Rhode Island.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Marc enjoys a variety of sports and outdoor activities, including golfing, surfing, skiing, baseball, and basketball. His passion for life extends to his interactions with patients, where he combines compassion and expertise to deliver exceptional care.
