Dr. X. Long Zheng is a clinical pathologist practicing in Kansas City, KS. Dr. Zheng specializes in coagulation and transfusion medicine. He is world renowned expert in diagnosis and management of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) a rare but potentially fatal blood disorder. Dr. Zheng discovered and cloned ADMTS13, a plasma metalloprotease that cleaves von Willebrand factor. Deficiency of plasma ADAMTS13 is one of the key pathogenetic factors that causes TTP. Dr. Zheng provides oversight on Apheresis, coagulation, and blood transfusion, etc. Dr. Zheng has published more than 140 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and 5 book chapters. He serves in editorial boards of several key journals in the field and in NIH study sections for Hemostasis, Thrombosis, and Blood Transfusion (HTBT).
