Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist | Couples & Family Therapist | Holistic Mental Health Practitioner
Are you feeling overwhelmed, stuck in your relationships, or unsure how to help your family reconnect? You're not alone—and you don't have to navigate it alone either.
I'm Johnthan Rivero, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (96886), Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, and sexual health educator with over 20 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families heal, grow, and find clarity. I combine traditional therapy with holistic tools to support each person in building stronger relationships and a more peaceful life.
Whether you're facing anxiety, depression, parenting challenges, relationship stress, or you're simply feeling off balance, my goal is to help you feel understood, supported, and empowered with tools that actually work.
How I Can Help:
For Individuals:
You might be feeling anxious, sad, angry, or lost. Together, we’ll explore what’s beneath those feelings and work on emotional tools to help you feel more in control, confident, and connected to your purpose.
For Couples:
Relationships aren’t always easy, but they’re worth fighting for. I help couples rebuild trust, improve communication, work through conflict, and reignite emotional and physical intimacy.
For Families & Parents:
Families come to me when communication breaks down, when kids are struggling at home or school, or when parenting just feels too hard. I work with the whole family system to create more connection, understanding, and harmony at home. I also provide practical parenting support to help guide your children in a positive, goal-oriented way.
My Approach:
Every person and family is unique. That’s why I draw from a wide range of methods such as CBT, DBT, NLP, Gestalt, Family Constellations, Hypnotherapy, and more. This flexible, integrative approach allows us to find what works best for you.
A Bit About Me:
I began my career as a psychologist in Latin America, and with over five years of assisting couples and families in the U.S. I bring a rich, multicultural perspective to my work. Currently, I hold a Professional Counselor Associate license in Texas, I’m a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, and a trained sexual health educator.
My clients often say they feel safe, heard, and genuinely supported—because I truly care about helping you thrive, not just survive.
Areas of Specialty:
- Couples Therapy: Conflict resolution, emotional intimacy, sexual health, and relationship renewal
- Family Therapy: Parent-child communication, behavior challenges, boundary setting, and parenting skills
- Individual Therapy: Support for depression, anxiety, anger, trauma, and stress management
- Holistic & Integrative Care: Blending traditional therapy with alternative modalities for whole-person healing
Clients often seek Mr. Rivero’s support to:
- Improve their emotional regulation and relational dynamics
- Navigate life transitions, such as marriage, parenting, or separation
- Address sexual concerns and enhance emotional intimacy
- Build confidence, set life goals, and develop healthier coping strategies
- Support a loved one living with a mental health condition
Educational & Preventive Programs:
In addition to therapy, I offer tailored educational programs, workshops, and coaching programs focused on emotional growth, parenting skills, communication, and relationship-building. These are available online or in person for individuals, couples, families, and community groups. These programs focus on personal growth, communication enhancement, emotional resilience, and relationship building. Services are available both online and in-person, and can be adapted for community organizations, schools, or parent groups.

How successful is marriage counseling?
Thank you for taking the time to post your questions and asking me for a professional opinion on your current marriage challenge. Therapy is very subjective for everyone. I can tell you that anything will work if you are knowledgeable about it and trust the process as well as who guides the journey. Marriage therapy works on different levels for every couple; success can also be reached at different levels. Couples therapy can help each member understand what is happening to solve it or to cope with the situation, and also to find more arguments to change the other member. Therapy has different approaches, and this is also a factor to take into consideration because it will challenge your belief system and most likely will make you change or defend your position to the end (logical or not). Therapy is a place for a marriage to help them understand their different points of view and help them renew their life commitment with each other; by restructuring their life goals (individuals and together), a couple can become successful, understanding and accepting that to be successful, each one will need to learn from their mistakes. Is Talkspace actually effective?
Thank you for taking the time to contact me and post your question. I believe that any type of therapy is going to be efficient depending on the therapist's selection of strategies to help a client. What makes a difference is the duration of this process and the tracking of progress, which encourages the client or patient to persist with the process. The modality is also going to depend on the client's preferences, remembering that you can always change therapists and modality (virtual/face-to-face) any time you feel he/she does not meet your needs. I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, feel free to write again. READ MORE
Alcohol withdrawal
Is not my area of expertise. But as any mental health professional will need to assess your case directly to answer better your question. What I will suggest is to ask yourself what it is that you accomplish with drinking (minimize emotions, reduce thoughts, avoid something, feel empowered). Most addictions are related to an emotional situation (stress, trauma, anxiety, among others). Saying that, it is important to find help from a specialized team (counselor, MD, AA, family). I hope this encourages you to look for more help. READ MORE
Should I see a doctor after a divorce?
Thank you for contacting me through this post. One thing that I will suggest you is to ask yourself why or what it is that you think you need a "doctor," understanding that with a "doctor" you mean a psychologist, counselor, or coach? The divorce is recent? If there is something that mentality or physicality is bothering you, you can seek out a specialist to help you. Remember that you can always visit your PCP or review any psychologist or counselor to improve your current situation or give closure to your past relationship. READ MORE
How long is the treatment for alcohol addiction?
First of all, thank you for taking the time to contact me and post your question. Alcohol use or abuse is not my area of expertise, but I can tell you that to treat addictions, especially those that involve drugs or have a long time going on, would need the help of a multidisciplinary team to assess and provide the support your friend might need. In that same order of ideas, an exercise I can suggest you, is asking yourself what it is that your friend accomplishes with drinking (minimize emotions, reduce thoughts, avoid something, feel empowered), this can help you to open to your friend the idea of seeking for professional help. From what I know, most addictions are related to an emotional situation (stress, trauma, anxiety, among others), but also when the brain gets used to receiving the drug dose, it will ask for it. In this type of cases, time is relative. READ MORE
What treatment is the quickest for anxiety?
Thank you for contacting me and asking your question. As we are all different, every approach and technique are unique, and to be able to match your personality and goal, we would need to assess your situation. Identifying the triggers helps the person be more aware of his perceptions and the type of behavior triggered. During the session, we will identify the behaviors and the root of the emotions related to those behaviors and start learning how to cope with them to then explore the possibility of healing any emotional wound to be able to reframe the ideas related to the emotions that are then expressed with your behavior. In other words, the most important part is to identify which approach will help you the best; this will make your process effective in time and effort. READ MORE
How to fix our marriage and prevent divorce?
I'm very sorry to hear that. In my experience with other clients, I have an idea of what you might be feeling. I am very sure that you and your wife have been doing the best you can with the information and idea of what it means to be in a relationship—to be a couple. One important thing to do is to be able to listen to each other. To really listen is to be present and empathic, and most of the time we want to gather information just to answer back and defend ourselves or look for who is "guilty" of "whatever the situation is." I know that all marriages can face challenges together when they are aligned with their goals. I don't know what the details of the situation are (they are important), but you can start by asking if she would like to work on things and that you are willing to do what it takes, even get help from a professional. This is to open the door to find solutions, but you need to be prepared to face the end if that is part of the solution. I know that I, as well as any other expert coaching couple, can help you and your wife. READ MORE
How effective is marriage counseling?
Marriage counseling, couples coaching, and many other therapies can help to improve your relationship as long as both have the same goal. What is important is to do your best to acknowledge the challenging situation and address it together. For a couple, "agreeing to disagree" can be the first step to seek help (book, professional educational video, counseling, coaching, among others) and be aware of your real commitment. In my experience, therapy can help you first to understand yourself and to achieve assertive communication to be able to reevaluate the current situation and decide what, where, how, and with whom you want/need to create realistic goals. The difference between marriage and any other relationship is the intensity of the emotions; what sometimes happens is that each one is talking in a different language, has different life goals, struggles for power, or has different emotional/sexual needs, to name a few. Starting a therapeutic process with your partner can end up strengthening the relationship or helping both of you to understand what happened in the relationship to be able to grieve the loss in a healthier way.
