Do You Need a Brain Injury to Have a Leaky Brain?
Most people have now hear of the term leaky gut. As with our gut we have a barrier to protect our brain called the blood brain-barrier. A TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) causes it to breakdown, but now we know neuroinflammation, stress, oxidative damage and even a leaky gut can cause a leaky brain.Why...
Pain in arm?
Hello, First my speciality is neurologic conditions, so may not be the best to answer. However if you are having RF Ablation and were on meloxicam then there could be some damage to the rotator cuff or nerve impingement. As its only been a few days, I would speak to your Orthopedic. As I am also a Functional Medicine practitioner I always look for the root cause. Many older people do not realize the importance of hydration and how much that can do for musclejoint pain and aches. Also some great natural antiinflammatory compounds that do not cause gastric bleeding are turmeric, glutathione and EPADHA. I hope you get better and this information helps. Why is one side of the body weak?
Hello, Torticollis is not a condition I have expertise in treating. I primarily treat TBIs, Covid Long Haulers and ADHD. If congenital it is the shortening of the SCM muscle. I would continue physical therapy and you can always do a free consultation if you do not find any help. MRIs do not pick up a lot of cognitive issues. Has been told he has any neuroinflammation or a breached blood brain barrier? If so contact me. Scorr CFMP, CCN, CHC . READ MORE
My knees click when I straighten them?
Hello, My practice is Functional NeurologyCognitive Function. However, I have been in the industry for 30 plus years. Although you are very young you could have some meniscus tearing if painful. I would look at an MRI and a good orthopedic. From a functional medicine perspective you want to have your diet and or supplements supporting healthy joints and an antiinflammatory dietsupplement regime. Hope that helps, Scott READ MORE

A leader in functional medicine with global teaching experience, Scott Bukow is redefining neurological care
Scott C. Bukow, CFMP, CCN, CHC, is a distinguished expert in functional neurology and cognitive health, dedicated to transforming patient care for individuals suffering from Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and COVID-19 Long Hauler symptoms. He founded his private practice, My Brain Mechanic, with the mission of providing innovative and effective treatment protocols that address the multifaceted challenges associated with brain health.
With over three decades of experience in functional medicine, Scott has served as the head educator for Metagenics and The Institute of Functional Medicine, equipping him with a profound understanding of the intricacies of brain function. He earned his CFMP from IFM/Metagenics in 1993, a B.S. and B.A. from Loyola Marymount University in 1990, and a Certified Health Coach designation from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in 2021. This comprehensive educational background underpins his commitment to advancing therapeutic strategies tailored to individual needs.
Scott’s approach is uniquely informed by his journey as a recovered severe TBI patient. This firsthand experience allows him to empathize deeply with his patients, understanding the hurdles they face during recovery. “While I cannot treat or diagnose conditions such as TBI, ADHD, or COVID Long Hauler symptoms, my objective is to optimize brain health and the gut-brain axis, guiding patients toward their fullest potential,” he explains.
His practice employs cutting-edge protocols that blend functional neurology with advanced nutritional therapies, focusing on identifying and addressing root causes of cognitive and neurological issues. Scott prioritizes personalized care, fostering a nurturing environment where patients feel recognized and valued. “Every patient who enters my practice becomes part of a family committed to healing and transformation,” he asserts.
Beyond his practice, Scott is passionate about education and has trained healthcare professionals across 23 countries in functional medicine principles. His significant contributions to the field have earned him numerous accolades, including the World Trade Center Award for Export Achievement in 2003, highlighting his global impact in advancing functional medicine.
After more than a decade of dedicated research, Scott proudly introduces the first-ever Medical Food Kit specifically formulated to support individuals with Post-Traumatic Brain Injury (PTBI) dysfunction. This groundbreaking advancement in neuro-nutritional care will be available to healthcare practitioners and their patients beginning late August 2026.
