Attending Texas Christian University, Dr. Braaksma graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in Chemistry. He then finished medical school at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York in 2006. Furthering his training, he completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Rush University and a fellowship in spine surgery at the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases.
Achieving excellence, he is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
For nearly ten years, Dr. Braaksma founded and ran a successful spine practice in Illinois, before bringing his family home to Texas.
On a professional level, he is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.
