Dr. Gist received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1990. He completed a residency in family medicine at the University of Alabama – College of Community Health Sciences, a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Louisiana State University, as well as a residency in anesthesiology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Dr. Gist is board-certified in both anesthesiology and critical care medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). The mission of the Board is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.
